J.L. Lewis can’t recall the last time he was playing in the lead group on the final day of a tournament, but he thought it was eight years ago. He doesn’t have to test his memory any longer, because after shooting 6-under 66 on Saturday he’s just two strokes off the lead and will be playing in the lead group on Sunday at the Jeld-Wen Tradition with leader Tom Lehman and Bernhard Langer. And he’s hoping to feel the excitement of being in the hunt at the end.
“Maybe I’ll be nervous if I have a real good shot at it when it really matters at the end,” said Lewis, who turned 50 earlier this season. “I hope I’m there. That would be fun. I expect to be up in there the way I’m hitting the ball.”
There are 10 golfers within three strokes of the lead heading into Sunday’s final round. Lehman, who is at 11-under-par 205, has won a Champions Tour major this year while Langer has won the other two.
