Bob Gilder is a native of Corvallis and the only Oregonian in the field, which gives his family and friends a rare chance to watch him play. He’s off to a great start and shares the early first-round lead with a 4-under-par 68.
His rented house in Sunriver is being shared by 17 members of his extended family, and his son-in-law Nathaniel Greig is serving as his caddie for the week. The crowded house includes three children and nine grandchildren as well as his wife.
“It’s a little more pressure, but it’s nice to play in front of everybody,” said Gilder, who noted that pizza was a cost-saving option for dinner quite a few nights this week.
